Our Studio

Jazzberries Center for Music & Art is located at 1677 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, across from the Hilton library.  In addition to the full range of Kindermusik classes, we offer drop-in art, art and theatre classes, birthday parties and a retail music and art shop.

Studio History

After teaching Kindermusik for nine years at several locations, Susan Leone, Jazzberries Center Director and Kindermusik Educator, wanted a studio of her own, where she could fulfill her vision of a creative and inspiring space for children and families to explore and enjoy the arts together.  She wanted it to be warm, inviting and fun.  Almost two years after starting this journey, Jazzberries Center for Music & Art officially opened in April 2008.

The studio and her vision is continuing to evolve.  She hopes you'll enjoy your experiences here and welcomes any thoughts and insights you'd like to share.

Our Philosophy

Kindermusik is a community of families and educators passionately committed to bringing music to children's lives through developmentally appropriate curricula, CDs, books, instruments, and activities.

Kindermusik's philosophy is founded upon rigorous research and our fundamental beliefs:

  • A parent or loving caregiver is a child's first and most important teacher.
  • All children are musical.
  • The home is the most important learning environment.
  • Music nurtures a child's cognitive, emotional, social, language, and physical development.
  • Children flourish in a child-centered environment where activities are developmentally appropriate.
  • Educators value the learning process, not the performance, of music making.
  • Every child should experience the joy, fun, and learning that music brings to life.

"Great art doesn't just happen. It has to be produced by people whose talent and skill are recognized early, nurtured, and given room to grow.  Art needs, too, educated audiences to view it, listen to it, and pay for it.  But audiences are created only if we educate our children to understand, appreciate, and make art themselves.  And that means arts education." -Carol Sterling, Consultant, Arts Education
